Solomon to unveil the findings of new investigation “Who owns the media” in a public event

Solomon presents findings from new investigation, examining for the first time the ownership structure of major media groups in Greece.

Who controls the media and information in Greece? Are media corporations active in other businesses in Greece and abroad?

How is a newspaper connected to the political and economic life of the country? And how much do we truly know about the websites and TV channels we turn to for our daily news?

Solomon’s latest investigation, ‘Who Owns the Media,’ is the first comprehensive effort to document the business activities and interests of the oligarchs behind the country’s major media groups.

Over 18 months, we examined thousands of financial statements, corporate announcements, and court rulings, and searched business registries in more than 30 countries.

Our findings reveal nearly 800 companies operating in diverse sectors like shipping, sports, and real estate, in countries such as Cyprus, the Marshall Islands, Liberia, and Panama.

The findings of the investigation will be presented for the first time at a public event on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 7:30 PM, at PLYFA (Koritsas 39, Athens 104 47). Journalists Danai Maragoudaki, Iliana Papangeli, Corina Petridi and Eliza Triantafyllou will discuss the investigation, with stand-up comedians Byron Theodoropoulos and Chrysa Katsarini as hosts.

The project is supported by the global journalism outlet OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project), the Foreign Press Association of Greece, Free Press Unlimited (FPU), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, and the Greek office of the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
